CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING AND FAVORITES

By Laura Wilmot

.

Cross-country skiing, ah, this sport which is slowly starting to gain in popularity and which deserves to be discovered!

Many share mixed feelings towards the sport, which for many was forced into their high school physical education class. However, our beautiful Quebec winters allow us to enjoy this sport before downhill skiing and after spring skiing.

For me it was a real crush! Being a fan of trail running during the summer, during the winter I prefer to enjoy the trails in another way. In my opinion, cross-country skiing allows cardio training while enjoying the beautiful landscapes offered by the Quebec winter.
In addition, this sport is very accessible for the whole family, and also a great alternative to winter hikes (for a shorter duration) and often also require less travel.

I have therefore listed my favorite places to fully enjoy this winter sport.

  1.  Mount Bellevue (Sherbrooke, about 7 km of trails, free access) During my university studies in Sherbrooke, it was my favorite place to go for a little cardio workout between two classes.
  2. Bishop's University Golf Trails (Lennoxville, 6 km of trails, free for Bishop's students otherwise $ 5 for the day, there are also family memberships) Very accessible place for all and the decor of Bishop's University is very enchanting during the winter. allows a break from the Harry Potter marathons without feeling out of place!
  3. The Plains of Abraham (Quebec, 13.9 km of trails, free access) Now a resident of Quebec City, I fell in love with the Plains of Abraham, which allows you to enjoy nature in the heart of the city!
  4. Mercier camp in the Laurentides wildlife reserve (less than an hour from Quebec, 70 km of trails (also 33 km of snowshoes) reserve managed by SÉPAQ, the purchase of daily tickets is therefore done on their website) My favorite place and which will be difficult to dethrone, I also intend to go and enjoy it during the holidays, in my opinion, we find the best snow conditions there!

Are you planning family getaways this winter, a day outdoors during the holidays or an original activity during your spring break, why not try cross-country skiing with your family.

And you, what are your favorite places? Since we will be spending all winter in Quebec, I want to discover new places or enjoy the snow.

See you soon,
Laura

Excellent article Laura! Bonne idée le ski de fond! Les sentiers de ski de fond dans le parc du mont orford sont très beaux et bien entretenus!
